Toyota Adds Investment in Indonesia

Toyota Tambah Investasi di IndonesiaToyota Motor Corp. (TMC) will invest Rp 1.3 trillion to increase car production capacity of 230,000 units per year so, from 2013. With the addition of new investment, Toyota's total investment in Indonesia reached Rp 4.1 trillion.

"TMC has agreed to add more capacity by 50 thousand units per year in Indonesia," said President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Johnny Darmawan, as quoted by Antara.

Earlier last year, TMC President Director Akio Toyoda has submitted additional production capacity of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) from 110 thousand to 180 thousand units per year, with an investment of around Rp 2.8 trillion.

"This is an additional investment, because TMC saw the Indonesian market that continues to grow," said Johnny who is also vice president director at TMMIN.

With these investments, he estimates at the end of 2013 the total production capacity TMMIN reached 230 thousand units per year. Meanwhile, in late 2012 or early 2013 TMMIN production capacity reached 180 thousand units per year.

Johnny said that in addition to increase investment in Indonesia, TMC also increase investment in Thailand. "Thailand and Indonesia will be Toyota's large production base in Asia Pacific," he said.

He said the addition of the new plant is intended to meet Indonesia's domestic market demand continues to increase, in addition to exports.

"Right now Toyota has not been able to meet the entire demand for cars in Indonesia. We are still short of supplies, despite having helped Daihatsu (for production of Toyota Avanza and Rush)," Johnny said.
